Current Need of HRERLIC, Nepal

National Committee Human Rights Education Radio Listeners’ Club (HRERLIC) Nepal, a youth focused human rights organization and originated as a response of INSEC’s human rights education programme, has crossed it five years successfully, for the protection, promotion and achievements of human rights in the grassroots. More than 800 local radio listeners clubs where 300 have affiliated with the national committee, 13 district networks and the rapid organizational development of the central committee are some of the references of its success.

The national committee is not limited to develop its organizational structure, rather working effectively to localize national and international human rights issues and its concerned principles. It has been succeeding to prepare more than 500 committed youth human rights activists who have shown their devotion, solidarity and interest, to work as community human rights workers. The activities spontaneously organised by the local human rights clubs and the facilitation of national committee can be evaluated as the promotion of voluntarism among the local people especially among local youth of community.

National committee has been succeeding to prepare potential human resources; almost them are capable enough to conduct local level human rights campaigns. Even some of its members are developing professional activist to work and address the national and international human rights issues. Participation in national and international programmes has sharpened their knowledge and understanding to analyse the human rights from their own perspective and to localize the issues.

The initiation and support of INSEC is never inclined to forget which has given us a forum, to work for human rights and social justice related issues.  The listeners of a radio programme now have turned towards human rights activists. All of them are developing and updating themselves to face and take some action thinking about the critical challenges of country. They interact themselves, find solutions among themselves, and put forward their arguments to lead their community from their own perspectives and with new vision and working mechanism developed by their self-effort. Formation of district network of radio listeners’ clubs, organising trainings even in the conflict affected areas, interactions and workshops mobilising their own resources and efforts to give a concrete shape of local as well as national network are some relevant references to prove their volunteer efforts and motivation for the protection, promotion and achievement of human rights. We are not miser to give its credit to INSEC, who knowingly and unknowingly has given us an impressive support to strengthen our campaign. At the same time INSEC has been the source of inspiration to other radio programmes for extending radio listeners’ club movement in Nepal. What we are doing now is because of INSEC and its frequent support, encouragement and sympathy towards us.

Now, time has been changing. Responsibility as well as obligation has been changing to all the civic group of the society. In the regard, we have found that HRERLIC also entitled to launch its activities with new perspective and new mechanisms. We have contemplation that now it has to take local action on peoples’ agenda. What INSEC is supporting to us is great but our broad network and frequent relationship with the community people has forced us to come out in the national figure and to develop as a potential and productive national group of youths to work for human rights. The communities have also expecting to do some deeds to them systematically and fruitfully. They have also expecting to solve their day-to-day problems through our initiations. Community youths activists are demanding advanced training to develop their capacity while working in human rights.

We are feeling the lack of resources to address all our campaigns. Various networks, many activists and biggest hope from the community has forced us to write this appeal to INSEC, with the hope to get valuable suggestions, support and solidarity to operate our activities in the future. We would like to extend our programmes in a more powerful way. We would like to generate more resources to do some regular activities, to show our strong organisational existence. The major thing, we want to go ahead independently. INSEC has frequently supported to us up to this stage, but until when?
